although, this is ages ago i stil want to comment. It looks really ugly at the moment, but if you took the bonnet off, the guards, grills etc it wouldnt look so big a job. Did he ever end up getting the ute back? Im guessing no seeing as he hasnt posted in a while..sad
yer,if it' didn't get the chassis rails,it's fixable.hey,i fixed my 1200 coupe race car after it hit a tractor tyre(don't ask),& it did in the guards, the bonnet, the inner guards, the radiator panel, the lower valance, etc, but not the chassis rails,so it pulled out straight on a chassis robot.buy it back from the insurance morons & go for it,don't lose something you love due to some noddy dog-phuqer in a 4wd.
my 1200 had that when i bought it so what the panel beater did was cut off half the front end and get another and replace it. all up it only costed me $1000 something? maybe you could but it back from the insurance money then get it fixed and have some spare cash in ya pocket.
If you take the cheque will the insurance company notify you of the method of disposal, e.g. auction, etc? So you can buy it back. Unless the front rails and floor are rusty I can't see it being a big job to fix. Obviously the insurance company are determining the value by age weighed against the estimated repair costs. Around here if it reachs more than a third of the vehicles value it's written off. I'm sure if you don't buy it back there will be plenty of takers, I would if I was in Oz.
its a bit of bad luck, one of my co-workers hit a bmw in his work ute just yesterday and did $2000 worth of damage to his car, he had a bullbar, apparently the beamers pretty knacked!
i would definitly be doin somethin along the lines of buying it back or fighting the insurance company and getting it fixed its not a big job by the looks with a little patance u could do it in the front yard no worrys.. but its a sad sad site

Re: RIP ernals ute
How much did you get from the insurance??? I got 5500 bucks 8 years ago for my average r100 12a mazda and got 1200 panels to put it back how it was after spending 600 straightening on a jig and wheel aligmenment and new tie rod. all up 1100 bucks with re-spray. So yours looks easier to fix than mine so think about it.
