The bottom end is an A-series block.the head is a two valve hemi chamber configuration. The valves are pushrod and rocker arm accuated. being a crossflow head it puts the carbs on the right side of the motor so the distributor has a 90 deg. adaptor that lies it down under the carbs facing rearward. The distributor also has an 8 plug cap because the head has two plugs per cylinder. When I can find them I will put the pics up.
It looks like Datracer has summed it up well.
The cylinder block is a 1970 to 1973 Datsun 1200 item & not the later A12 type.
He is correct about the ignition. There is a right angle drive in the distributor hole & it drives what I thought was either an eight plug single distributor, or possibly even two distributors. Datracer seems to know all about it & assures us that it is a single distributor.
Today, in my view, this head belongs on a street engine that uses a modified stock type distributor, with a low profile cast alloy distributor cover in place of a conventional cap. This would serve as a crank angle sensor for the computer, & I think an EFI induction would be best. If a wasted spark system was used that fired both plugs in each cylinder, then only four coils would be required. This would remove all the mechanical complexity of the ignition that is shown in the picture & still provide total control over the ignition event.
The EFI induction could be designed to clear both the brake cylinder & distributor body & still work & look bloody good.
A more conventional set of exhaust pipes would look & fit better in the engine bay & still provide all the flow that the engine would need, & the race oil pump could be kept to retain that race engine herritage.
An alloy oil pan [if it doesn't already have one] would make it absolutely bloody perfect.
Being a pushrod design, it would be mechanicly simple & reliable, so it should serve well in my 1000 coupe, ...... errrr, if I could somehow get one of them.
It looks like Datracer is still around as his last log-in was about five weeks ago, so hopefully he can post up the promised pictures for us.
