Greetings all,I still have no results to post and wish to appologise to anyone who is waiting anxiously for them.I have recently had to move house which is quite a large job for me.....and now I have to move again as the new house has just been condemned (that will teach me for looking mainly at the garage).
FYI here's a breif summary, - I have fitted into a H165 centre a bearing that will apply force onto one of the existing side gears of the spider. It is adjustable which allows me to increase the force or 'preload' which will then limit the ability of the spider gear to spin.It is quite fiddly to set up and I believe that although it will work it may be fragile, which can be overcome by using higher tensile materials.
Testing will begin soon and will involve a limited number of bitumen kms followed by removal and inspection(possible photo),then re-install for testing on the Autocross track and/or a quick fang out in the forest, again removal for inspection .........any further is pure imagination
I will be off line again for about 2 weeks but I will post again when I can.
Al.

Hmmm, I would like to test this thingy first to see if my dodgey engineering skills are a total failure again (I have little faith),updates and pics will be posted when available.

I have actually modified a h165 diff centre to include adjustable preload using bearings instead of springs...it shouldn't wear out like the spring locker. I am a little worried about tearing the guts out of it though so much testing is required.....stay tuned

Been there, done that and I doubt the hp figure very much, mine was only 1010cc but had plenty of goodies - balanced crank, massive cam, head work, webbers, extractors etc and only produced 48kw at the wheels.I believe that converts to about 80 bhp,it did spin to somewhere around 10,000 rpm though, sadly it would barely last 2 rallies before stretching rod bolts and chewing out crank bearings. They were never gonna be a 1 litre grunter with 3 main bottom ends,do the big hp motorbike engines have the same?? anyone???

How about you go to the market and buy some of the velour that you like,a tin of contact adhesive and a coupe of metres of velcro.I made a new roof lining for my 1600 with just this and it came up shmick

I spoke to Steve Newing about this recently,he is a very sucessfull circuit racer here in oz and has experimented with this aswell. He told me that the "timing scatter" you talk of is due to torque flex in the distributor shaft and is about 4 degrees on an A series, even worse on a L series which is about 8 degrees.Pretty crap when you imagine your total timing could vary between - say - 30 and 38 degrees btdc on each high rpm throttle change. His solution was to use the dizzy only to direct the high energy to the corect plug and to make a crank angle sensor like is being discussed here, the sensor he uses is a magnetic one similar to a Terratrip wheel probe sensor. The end result was a beautifull 'crisp' sounding A series weapon........just like mine

I am planning to do the Camcrusher(2 1/2 weeks time) and the Nissan nightmoves (june 26) before going os,when I return $$$ will dictate the rest, but yea I hope to do the George Derrick and Yackerboo. My Navigator was the Guy I've been navigating for recently in a VR4,and his exact words on the night were : I'm quite happy rallying when I'm sitting 1 metre to the right of here ....I am now chasing someone else for the job.
That 2nd spectator point was an absolute cracker and I know the corner rather well,so pulling the hand brake at it was just....
Sad to here your crew had a failure,I hope they don't get dis-couraged and give up.
