A while ago I had my normal trimmer just cover the top in black trim carpet. Looks great, completely hides the cracks and looks great.

Bigger block.. more weight. AC, more weight. More fuel. More, more, more.
What's the point of having a Datto then? May as well have a V8 muscle car.
One must remember the number one thing which makes the Datto as good as it is.

- 797kg!!!

After driving nothing but a 1200 for the best part of 15 years last century, A/C is something which regularly crossed my mind. However each time I got serious it didn't happen because there was just too much stuff to do to make it fit. The added weight is a problem too. Basically the only way it would work without killing the car is to hook it up as a dragger i.e. the compressor only comes on when the brake light does.

Over the years I instead found other solutions to the problem, wearing less clothes (in some cases, none at all) and I got a pool at home so as soon as I got home I could just jump straight in.

Now I would never, ever dream of A/C'ing my 1200. Never!

Anyone out there have a spare bonnet latch (top half, the bit that fits to the bonnet itself)?

Wanted ASAP, money waiting.

Came across this great wagon in a shopping centre car park in Mittagong last month. Made me feel very jealous. Absolute mint stock condition, rare rare rare! Had a datto club sticker on the windscreen so it must belong to someone in the know. Anyone know who owns this beauty? What a shame the rear tail light was damaged.

Made me wanna come back home and get busy! (see progress report on my datto build in "project builds"..)

After another 8 months in development hell, its finally time for some more Datto. Photo shows front guard replaced and work done on front.

After many months trying to find a chop rear quarter, we finally gave up and had a go at repairing it from scratch. Here's the result. Still to do some shrinking. Also repaired some rust under the fuel filler and as usual on dattos, the runner.

Yeah.. I know. No Brakes. Unfortunately last week the "newly rebuilt" brakes failed. Seems to be a problem with the "new" master cylinder, haven't had too much chance yet to investigate.

Despite the temptation to get an aftermarket drivers' door, we've persevered with the repair of the existing one (after hearing quite a few horror stories on Datsun1200.com regarding aftermarket doors).
More photos soon..

Geez I was warned about this the other day by the guy who is going to do my bodywork. I was all ready to buy a replacement Drivers' door (mine has some cracks around the window area). He said not to bother as he had had lots of bad luck with the aftermarket Datto doors, he would much rather just repair and rebuild mine.

Looks like I'm gonna take his advice!

1.) One thing that has not stayed stock.. we've replaced the old muffler with this little doggy to give a bit more breathing space. Nice sound, not too loud, 100% Datto.
2.) General view of engine bay. About the only thing not replaced was the Alternator (worked perfectly)and of course the motor itself.
3.) Close up of the new Chinese "Hitachi Copy" Carby.
4.) The TAI (Transistor Assisted Ignition) unit. This is an "Electronics Australia" kit design from the mid 1980s. The box was built up from whatever was in the junk box that day. The circuit retains the 100% stock dizzy and points but basically takes the load off the points meaning they basically last forever (i.e. the motor stays in tune even with mechanical points). It also provides dwell extension for a fatter spark, especially handy on those ice cold mornings.

Enjoy
