This toy is up to $10k and i haven't got the SR20 bolted in yet. Should get close to $12k all up. The ute cost $6500 when we got it, all painted and retrimmed but stock A12.

I can only assume you are planning your conversion for a 1200, in which case you will have a hard time getting an sr20det engineered for rego. if a turbo is what your after go with the ca18det but dont underestimate the sr20de they have plenty of potential.

If its been sitting for that long the seals have probably gone hard. The oil on the sump plug is more than likely coming from somewhere else running down the motor and settling on the bottom. if you are trying to get a quick fix try some engine oil additive to help rejuvenate the seals. otherwise replace them and probably your sump gasket too.

G'day Davem, CA18DET's seem to be getting harder to find especially a good front cut. I was considering one for my 1200 ute but couldnt find one so opted for an SR20DE (picked up a cheap damaged 1200 sedan already converted). with the CA18 the original radiator support needs to be cut out to fit the new radiator in, alternatively with the SR20 and the right choice of radiator no cutting is neccessary. I should have struts with disc brakes and booster left over from donor car if your interested.

I recently purchased a 1200 sedan with an SR20 and 5 speed with the original clutch cable. A bracket has been made to hold the end of the cable this is mounted off the gearbox so that the outer part of the cable pushes the clutch fork in. I would post a pic for you but not sure how to.
