I'm putting my 280zx struts on, and noticing that my old spacers don't fit, the centering circle is the wrong size and to make it fit i need a 1/4" spacer which means i need longer studs, then I can put my old wheels on and things would be fine. but that is a bad solution ( but i may have to for the weekend. )

so what offset wheels work with 280zx struts?

something in a 15x6 sort of wheel.

Alot of the z's from 74-84or85 ran 14s from memory the one we have has 14s not to positive of an offset. Might check with Les Schawb tires.

either z factory wheels or other wheels with zero offset, but those will probably be bulging out the fenders

all i really need is the right offset for the 280zx strut, 15x195x50 tires already fit nicely. these wheels were never right for this car, so maybe this is inspiration to get the right ones.

The snowflake ones i mentioned are factory z wheels.

But I'l look at the dismantler for a 15" 0 offset wheel and see how it fits.

What you need is:
280zx wheels, whatever size, if non-turbo get the non turbo ones, otherwise, you will need the ones with the +20 offset.

I've managed to get wheels, only needed a 1/4" spacer to clear the calipers ( except a tiny spot I need to grind off the rim.

it'll help to get aftermarket mag wheel nuts that have threading all the way down, unlike the OEM ones that have like 1/4" at the start not threaded.

you can't fit anything bigger than 6.5" wheels without messing with the offset.

most wheels made for z won't fit other datsuns properly without flares

some 510 guys use +20 wheels and use spacers with longer studs (nismo)

i found the stanza uglymobile has long studs that work

i think the wheels and tires fit fine now. I had kind of flared them before to fit the 15" wheels in. Needed a 1/4" spacer to clear the wilwood calipers, but that's all good now, I need to relieve the wheel a tiny bit to keep it from scuffing the caliper, it's a tight fit, a spacer a tad over 1/4" would make it all fit perfectly, but that will require longer studs, but getting those is easy, taking the struts apart to put them in isn't

I think i'll make my 6pm deadline tomorrow. I don't have any choice.

I hope everyone finds it informative that I go on these adventures so you won't have to :)

Wheels: 82 280zx N/A 6 spoke - 1 gold 1 black painted {this is what you get on short notice}( so they have a less ideal offset, but when used with 3/8" spacer and longer studs and modern mag-acorns would be perfect )

tires: pirelli p4000 14x195x60 front / falken something 15x195x50 rear

Brakes: wilwood dynalite 4pot forged aluminum calper ~3 lbs each loaded
Lines: russel 15" stainless dot approved ( yes 12" may fit, but it's too short when the car is jacked up )

springs: 200 # {oem=90#}

strut: tokiko 280zx short strut 5 pos adjust

1" bump steer spacer.

Noltec urethane control arm bushings

Nismo urethane sway bar bushings

goes so low it's too low. also capable of stock ride height.

it's gonna be fun to drive isn't it??? :)

I think the rear of the car is way too light now, it's sort of bouncy, but it only makes 1 real bounce it's just no where as stiff as the front.

it's at the alignment shop now. I needed rear brakes also, so it'll get some new shoes while it's getting worked on.

you're right if i want it very low I need major flares. Something to deal with later...

car doesn't pitch for and aft now when accelerating :)

I've just opened myself to a great big world of suspension tweaking didn't i... suppose it might be better than just being stuck with less than ideal setups

I'm in tahoe now over 400 miles on the new suspension, high speeds, mountain roads, snow, 8100 foot passes with snow. 0 problems. nothing, no tweaking everything just works.

brakes are awesome. suspension is so much metter than the stock, noise isn't that bad with the dampers on the softest setting.

settles into mountain turns so nicely.

steering is easier now with wheels with a proper offset and such.

it's really been worth all the money and pain and effort. :)
