I know this isn't directly 1200 related, but I figured that if you get enough datsun guys together in one place and someone has GOT to know somethin

Anyway, my friend has a blown engine in her 710 and wants to replace it. L18's are a bit hard to find (and if you can find them, have high miles). I've heard that the KA24 from the 240SX has the same mount points as the L-series engine (as the blocks have nearly identical castings). I was wondering if anyone had any insight into this. I feel that the best option for her is the newer KA24 because of fuel injection and more torque (that old motor was quite slugish). I am aware of the wiring nightmare that probably would ensue, but I'm ok with electronics so hopefully I wouldn't become too lost.

I was also wondering if the L-series transmission would bolt to the KA block. If so, it would make everything a lot easier because she wouldn't need a new driveshaft or have to worry about another transmission fitting the tunnel.

Sorry for the long post and my lack of knowledge, but I'm a honda guy, so my nissan/datsun

Thanks much!

I'm not to sure about the mounting points, but the trans. will not fit to KA motor. what about an L20B engine? they should be fairly plentiful, and no problem with the tranny. But a KA24 would really move! If you can get the whole harness and trans., it would fit tunnel and only need minor mods to crossmember for trans.

hmmm....
Trans should bolt up methinks. L series and Z series are the same, FJ is also the same although the angle is different.
The KA was just the souped up Z...
I've been told that FJ's bolt up to KA boxes, so by a process of deduction a KA should boltup to an L box (although the whole box may rotate by 10 degrees or so...)
