1971 Sedan runs fine. I have over hauled the carbie including linishing the body contact surfaces, new plugs, replaced the points with Petronix etc. The car has run great for a year. Gets regular oil, plugs etc.

Yesterday she started running rough. By the time I get to work she would not idle. Lifting the foot of the accelerator was just like turning the ignition key off. she ran fine under acceleration but would not idle.

At lunch time at work I looked for possible fuel blockage/filters/idle mixture screw movement/ air leaks in vacuum hoses etc etc with no luck.

Driving home started the same way as getting to work. All of a sudden she ran OK. Idles smooth, accelerates smooth. All OK this morning to work.

Dont ya just love em!!!!

Probably just waiting until I am dressed up to go out before doing it again.

Mate sounds like a faulty Fuel Solinoid to me, this happened when i first got my ute. Once its starts becoming faulty it wiil cut fuel off at any stage and happen randomly. just un-screw the unit and there is a pin like solinoid unit you can take out. You will get pre-ignition everynow and then but its nuthing to worry about, or you can replace the fuel solinoid unit.

My guess is the same as B120dat on this.

I had similar problems and realised the fuel solenoid was not working. :)

1971 Sedan.

Does not have anti-dieseling solenoid on the carbie.

It was only going back to idle not while I was running. It has never cut out.

Ahhh i see, well i woudl suggest getting rid of the Hitachi all together mine was just constant problems like this. would be good one day crap the next, there not that great a carbie, people will say ohh there good once you get them right but they constantly go in and out tune etc.... What i have found anyway. Just whack and 32/36 weber on good on fuel econmy when driving nicely thier a progressive double barrel carbie so they have good go when you want too rev up and go hard.

I agree with short-coupe. Something blocked the idle jets. Either the blockage went through or it moved just waiting to get me another time.

I am willing to wait and see.
