Not sure where this comment belongs.

G'day to whoever looks after the site.

In fairly recent times the inital page load can take up to 2 mins to load with just your banner showing and the screening hanging there.

We had the same problem (caused by google ads). The solution was to put them in "IFRAMES", it's a bit of pain but solved the problem.

If your not sure what I am talking about you can rip off the source code at our test site http://www.eyeknowsomething.com or shoot me a PM.

It will still take the same time to load, but will allow users to see all the content while they are waiting.

Hope this helps
Cheers
Damien

ps. Great site and thanks for your effort.
pps. Now it's time to go and clean the rally car ready for the weekend.

Sounds like a good idea. I moved this thread to the "Comments" forum so the Webmasters can see it.

I used 56k dial-up and found it better than many forum sites. Recently I upgraded to 120k dial-up and it only took 21 seconds to load the front page just now (with empty cache, normally it's quicker).

On rare occasions I have seen datsun1200.com get very slow but it is not the norm, is it? I never thought about the Google ads causing a slowdown problem. I have seen that exact problem (header taking forever, then main page loads) in other forums quite a bit. like the Zcar forums and others
