Hi all,

My datsun B210 GX gives a noise when i change the gear from 3rd to 4th always, that is Cranking noise that comes, but if i shake the liver to left and change that will work without noise, Is that required a expensive engine repair or can be adjusted easily, what are the reasons for that

Thanks
Regards
Sumith Asanka

sounds like a sincroniser (or baulk) ring is stuffed. this helps give smooth gear engagement and disengangement by speeding up or slowing down the selector hub that you move with the gear lever. im doing them in my 63 series 5 speed at the moment. they are a major thing requiring complete dissassembly of basically the whole gearbox.
and also have a look at the condition of the bush on the bottom of the gear stick, that would give you a sloppy gear shift meaning that you would have to move the gear stick to get it into gear properly.

all depends on how many were imported to sri lanka, to see how many parts are available.
i dont think we had 120y gx's (b210 gx) over here, possibly america.
if the box is like that it wont be long before the little bits of metal spread round the box like a cancer and destroy most things and a whole new box will be cheaper.
but for just the sincro's would have to be cheaper than a new box, depending on availability of second hand gearboxes they would be a time effective measure.
if you want more info just pm me.
