What's this part?

I am trying to get confirmation on what this part is (apart from broken!)? I think it is the temperature sensor for the temp gauge but not 100% sure. My gauge is still working but the car appears to be running cooler
I have a feeling it was damaged when I had the extractors put on. Are new ones readily available? ![]()

it,s a coolant temp. sensor for emission controlls. you can probably live without it.

it is possable, like someone else mentioned, that it's for an electric fan, but I doubt it unless it's a front wheel drive car.

no,it's a temp sensor for emissions,like rgrinder
said.as most people(ok,me) remove this emissions crap,it's not needed.so,this makes the outlet a good place to put the temp sender for an aftermarket water temp guage.vdo has an adaptor with the same outside thread as this hole,& the same thread as aftermarket senders. or the water temp sensor for an injection setup.

My guess is a sensor for the auto choke, it is not the sensor for the guage as it sits on the right hand side

Well thanks for all the replies
I can tell you that it is not for the auto choke, I still have a manual one. It's not for an electric fan, don't have one of those either The motor is as it came out of the factory so it must be an emissions/temp sensor like has been suggested. The car was running at about half the temp it normally sits on so one could think only one wire is broken so maybe it reads low but on the way to work today it was back up to normal temp so it may have just been the cool night air that was affecting it but I have never noticed before. I always tend to watch the gauges very closely after I have had work done on the car!!

if your temp runs low on a cold night probably best to fit a new termostate
