Hi All,
This has probably been answered before but stuffed if I can find it....
I have a '73 1200 ute which I aquired which was painted 14 years ago and put into storage unassembled. I am in the process of putting this together. 120Y discs and struts were fitted with the un-boosted master cylinder, but the thing doesnt stop! You need to haul on the pedal to get anything to happen.
What is the best thing to do as far as a booster goes? It has a 2 bolt fitup on the firewall for the master cylinder, and the speedo cable comes out very close to the top of it, and the clutch cable is not too far away either. I have a Sunny booster which I had a look at fitting, but there is not enough room for the 4 bolt fitup, and the firewall is also not flat around that area either. Does a 120Y booster have a 2 bolt arrangement at the firewall, or am I better off looking for a remote booster?
Surely someone has done this before!
Cheers,
JD

Just make the small mods required to fit the sunny one make a shim to go in the uneven part as most boosters will require some mods anyway even 120y so may aswell use what ya got there.

1973 ute and 120Y with front discs have a different sized rear cylinder. So the balance will be off unless you use the 120Y rear cylinders. Also if you have taller diameter than stock tires, it will require more effort at the pedal.

The booster will help with pedal effort, but won't fix an unbalance problem or other brake problem.

I was chatting to a guy today who suggested a 1200 coupe booster will bolt straight on, and has an adaptor which goes into the 2 bolt firewall to the 4 bolt booster. Any thoughts on this? I would prefer not to go hacking up the firewall if I don't have to.
When the conversion was done, a sedan diff was also put in, mainly for the ratio change, but I believe it was fitted as a whole assembly. Not sure if the sedan has different wheel cylinders. Nice thought, although the Jap type master has a different piston for front and rear. I will have to investigate this further.
Maybe there is no direct bolt up booster? I wouldnt have thought that they would produce a firewall which is different between boosted and unboosted though.

1200 coupes never came with a booster but twin reservoir master cylinder yes same with later utes and some sedans bud. It must be something modified to fit. Like lancer or something else.

Yes, B110 never had a booster.
The best fit is a B210 booster, it is the small unit, much smaller than B310(Sunny) booster. You still have to make a bracket, or drill new holes in the firewall. Trivial.

Or the Mitsubishi Lancer booster, which is bolt-on.

Thanks for the tip on the Lancer booster. I will have a look around for one of these.
