Factory Zinc Coating Colours
B110SSS
Posted on: 2018/6/11 7:19
Just looking at giving the SSS a bit of a birthday over Winter and one of the jobs pending was to re zinc as much of the wiper motor housings as possible, and the bonnet latches- both on the bonnet and the radiator support panel.
Can anyone tell me whether they were silver or gold zinc coated ex the factory? Cheers Dave

The choice between gold and blue galvanizing depends on if you want to paint it, one's better for painting although I don't remember which off the top of my head. It's probably the other one. I could go up to the shed and pop the bonnet but it's cold, dark and rainy outside.

Here's another look. Bprojects is currently selling this genuine Nissan bonnet latch for B110. Finish seems different from my original 1972

The original goldish color was actually not zinc plating but cadmium used as a sacrificial protective coating, Cadmium plating has gone the way of the Dodo due to environmental Nazi's and the modern replacement is Nickel plating which when polished resembles chrome and has a satin silver finish if unpolished that is what all modern bolts and nuts are done in.
Increased use of Nickel plating is probably why Clive Palmer wants to reopen his Townsville facility as an aside because increased use of nickel is becoming more common, You can even do nickel plating at home kits are available for about Au $160.00 You can view topic.
