One for the 1000 owners. ok, I want to know if I can get away with this without doing any fabrication.

My current 1000 has an old A12 in it. I was thinking of puting the 1984 A12 out of my ute in it (for a few reasons) but the mounts are different.

The 2 other A12s I have (ie. not the one in my 1000), have mounts at different heights (coming off the cross member type thing). The 1000's cross member mounts are the same height. Also the bits bolted to the block are different to the newer A12s so i can't use them in the swap.

These are the mounts on the newer A12:

What i want to know is... Can i use two of the high mount bits to fit a newer A12 into my 1000?
phew, long post..

I doubt it. The differences I've noticed (other than mounting) are to do with the distributor position; alternator position (all three A12s I have are different to each other) and the carburettors are all different (varying levels of pollution/re-circulating gear).

Also the oldest one has a taller tappet cover.

This is the 1000's current A12 engine mounts:

Actually i believe from a website i once found that the early a12 were less powerful than the a10, but due to the extra capacity they were a lot more tourquey, the second incarnation as featured in the 120y was about the same as an a10 and the sunny motor was more powerful, altough the figures were all within about 5-6hp above or below the a10 output!

Most A10's were rated at 62bhp [sae] The 1000 coupe had a little more compression & developed 66bhp. All 1200's developed 69bhp. My 120Y manual does not list the power but the Gregories manual says it is also 69bhp
I do not have specs on current models, like the A12 in the B310 Sunny, but i do not imagine that it would develop much more, if any.

Source, factory owners manuals, except where noted.

Mine's a whopping 58hp... probably because of all the emmissions crap that was on it like the catalytic converter etc.
