The L20 swap is worthwhile if you can do the work yourself, or have a mate who can. The torque of the L20 in such a light car makes it all feel so effortless. The main things to remember are to mount it as low and rearward as you can - with the tallest of the L series blocks you will pretty much need to anyway to get it under the bonnet.
The stumpy 5spds are an easier fit into the 1200 tunnel, but the long boxes can fit too. You should be able to find some info on the forum about it if you do a search.
The 200B extracters won't fit when it's in the 1200, I couldn't find any off the shelf items that would. But you may be able to use the top half of them if they are an interference design (tri-Y) with a custom lower half to save some money - just make the secondary pipes of the same diametre and length as the ones you cut off.
Easy enough to modify the 1200's engine x-member (
x-member,

Easiest and cheapest diff upgrade that will handle the L series is a BorgWarner rearloader from a 120Y (3.89) or Corolla (3.89, 4.1, 4.3). Corolla housings are wider as well which will match the track increase of the front end with the bigger struts.
