im planning on removing as much as possible from a 200B ive acquired and putting it into a 1973 1200 coupe. if any1 has done this before or knows their way around something like this it would be gooood to find out some of the problems i will have or even what will simply fit straight into the 1200 from the 200B.

the 200B has these parts which id like to move into the 1200coupe plz advise if im wrong or completely wrong.

semi worked engine with bigger extractors, heads and webbers.
15" mags w/ wheels.
5 speed gearbox
driver seat (maybee passenger too)
front suspension / brakes
anything else which is useful.

i can and will prolly have to modify a fair bit in the engine bay and probably elsewhere.

the rest of the bits can be sold if any1 wants em email me - sim at sol1.net.

thanks in advance for any info/help on this project.

there are people that know better than me, but most of the stuff you mentioned should go in, the gearbox will be a tight fit i think and the seats may not go,

the struts apparently are quite tall too, too tall for a 1200 really, you can lower springs and stuff but you will loose travel

The L20 swap is worthwhile if you can do the work yourself, or have a mate who can. The torque of the L20 in such a light car makes it all feel so effortless. The main things to remember are to mount it as low and rearward as you can - with the tallest of the L series blocks you will pretty much need to anyway to get it under the bonnet.

The stumpy 5spds are an easier fit into the 1200 tunnel, but the long boxes can fit too. You should be able to find some info on the forum about it if you do a search.

The 200B extracters won't fit when it's in the 1200, I couldn't find any off the shelf items that would. But you may be able to use the top half of them if they are an interference design (tri-Y) with a custom lower half to save some money - just make the secondary pipes of the same diametre and length as the ones you cut off.

Easy enough to modify the 1200's engine x-member (x-member, closeup), but the gearbox x-member will need to be fabricated from scratch.

Easiest and cheapest diff upgrade that will handle the L series is a BorgWarner rearloader from a 120Y (3.89) or Corolla (3.89, 4.1, 4.3). Corolla housings are wider as well which will match the track increase of the front end with the bigger struts.

Let me know if you have any questions
