Yeah but that side cover matches closest to 73-74 models. Maybe without the fins on the front painted black.

The early models had no fins on the back and it dont look like a post 74 side cover.

Will ring the old guy tomorrow for more info as he said it was a 74. Maybe it has had a re-spray in blue along the lines of the 73-74 tank style.

So was burgandy the only colour option?

I take back my original estimate. At work we have a guy mad on old yamaha's, and owned a few RD's too and he said that he wouldn't pay more than $1500 for one of those that needed work as although there is a cult following but there were heaps of them made. He knows his stuff. But I'm more of a Kawasaki and Honda fan. I probably shouldn't have commented because I clearly don't know the value of old yamaha 2 strokes.
