hey guys i am going to be shave the ugly handles of my ute tail gate. wat have to guys done in terms of creating a new handle on the inside as i want the tailgate to open and close to fit my bike in.

I used a mechanism out of a toyota hilux with the handle on the inside. Cost about $80 for a full hilux tailgate and fittings. Cut up the part that the handle mounts to and welded it into the bolt-on section inside the datsun tailgate - the SR5 version is best to use if you do this as it is fairly flat around the handle. The mount the side bits were thay need to be. Some spacers will be needed to get the right spacing between the tailgate and body parts of the latches.

As saide earlier by ___1200ute A hilux mechinism, i am using electric solinoids though. i am going to have a button on the tailgate that u push and the solinoids pull in and release the tailgate. i paid $60 for the mechinisims and for 2 big electric solinoids out of a old fairlane. Hope this assists u a bit. Peter

cheers, just cant make sense of the mechanism that attachs the tailgate to the main body
