thick paper gasket
Do you really mean paper, like a paper sack, writing paper, etc? Or do you mean a sheet gasket material that can be cut any way you want? If you used regular paper that might be a problem as the fuel could dissolve it over time.

I put the carb in and it runs much better now.
What made the difference? Just putting two gaskets on?

Sorry, when I meant papaer I meant that sheet you cut out to make gaskets.

What made the difference was replacing the missing ball bearing in the acceleration pump area.
:)

The thing is now, it jurks when the cars engine is loaded, Like while driving I press the accelerator harder, there will be a jerk like the engine stalled and then it starts accelerating like normal. Could that be faulty plugs?

Took the carb apart again and flushed all the jets out with water and pressurised air.

The car now runs smoother and the jerk has lestened. But it does come back sometimes. Could it be that theres dirt stuck somewhere ??

I notice a flat spot in the acceleration, especially if you let go of the throttle and then accelerate again.

I doubt if it is dirt. You can see if it is dirty, the holes are fairly big.

You might have a bit of water left in the bottom of the fuel bowl. That can cause intermittent problems. Better to use starting fluide (ether spray) or Carburetor Cleaner as it wil evaporate quickly.

But the most common cause is vacuum leak.

Yea, it could be a vacuum leak. Im still thightening the screws everywhere.

The plugs were taken out and they were coated with carbon. Must be from all that accelerator pumping. I put in another set of plugs. Now the jerks have reduced and the car runs smoother. Occasionnaly the jerks still come about. Ill check the plugs later to see if the cars still running too rich. Could the plugs be fouling due to too much petrol when I accelerate?

I think Ill run the car for a few days to clear up any carbon build up. Maybe that will help.

Thank guys.

Hey Kodiak,

I have the "jerking" when accelerating. I found the coil HT connection was dirty. Gave it a clean and all is well.

Thanks 1956. I check the coil and discovered that the coil wasnt very good and the HT cable going from the Coil to the distributor was also having high resistance. I replaced both and the jerking seems to reduce. Looks like the jerk is caused by many factors. hehe.
