What can cause the ignition timing to fluctuate?

The ignition timing on my CA18DET is all over the place at the moment. I have tried 2 different computers and 2 different crank angle sensors(condition unknown on both cas) with no improvement.
What can cause the timing to vary wildly? Thanks Matty

a faulty knock sensor, crook wiring between crank angle sensor and ECU or between Knock sensor and ECU are the next things I would look into

Thanks for the reply Blofly.
I have a couple of spare knock sensors so I'll swap one of them in this week and see if it helps. Good tips about the wiring too. Thanks again Matty
