If I had that much to spend on a 5 speed box I would buy it because they are few and far between, hell I even contemplated buying a complete sunny just for the box, tailshaft pedal box and clutch assembly and wreck the rest of the car.
That whole car was advertised for $3000 here in WA

If hes selling it for 1000 bucks let him. it's his decision. U never no who is out there lookin for a 5 speed box and is willing to pay anything to get one. good luck with the sale mate and im sure hes made room to negotiate as well.

I bought this coupe for parts back in 98 for $400. It came complete with 5 speed box. I got the box re-built and it now lives under my 1200. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes u dont.

You can see the box in the bottom left of the photo..

Its true sometimes you get lucky and score a bargain from someone who has no idea what they have.
But then again, you are talking 8 years ago.
There would have been a few blown up or just plain thrown away since then.
8 years ago old fords weren't worth anything. People couldn't give them away! Now they are worth big dollars. I should of kept some of the xy's and xb's ive owned. And the monaro's, and the chev powered hq, and the slr torana. They were cheap years ago but as more get smashed and wrecked they become more expensive.
Same goes for parts like 5 speed datsun gearboxes. Full stop.

It all comes down to availability.

Not yet, I think it will be sold shortly.
I thought Id give the 1200 guys first bite of the cherry.
I'll put it in the trading post if it doesn't sell(or just keep it)
They dont last too long in the trader, it took me ages to find this one. Every one that came up, was gone straight away.

The guy i bought it off had no idea. It was going to be trashed. Back then the 5 speeds were just as rare. I just got lucky!

But now days, you'll never find a 1200 at the wreckers. Back then i could visit the local wreckers and choose from 3 or 4 coupes. Now i cant even find a single passenger door!! Datsun parts availibility has definately declined!!
