OK, the first trick to learn here is to use the 'reply' button in the top right of each post & this overcomes the need to start a new thread for each reply.
Don't worry, we all learned by doing at the start & you will quickly learn all the tricks.

The simplest way to do this [not necessarily the easiest] is to find a junker 520 that originally came with an L series & use those parts that you need to make it all a bolt-in job. The hard part might be in finding the junker.

Google 'Datsun 520' & see what turns up. There is also a 'search' panel on the left side of this screen. Type 'Datsun 520' in there as we have dealt with these models before. At the bottom of each group of links, you may see 'show all replies' Clicking on this will give you access to all of the links. Patience is a virtue, so cruise around in there for a while & you will soon get the hang of it.

Good luck & welcome to the club.

P.S. Don't forget to add your basic location details to your profile so that they remain visible every time you make a post.

the difference will be the mounts, you will have to make up new ones the J series is like a chunky a series so the fitting should be okay might just have to keep the engine low for clearance, get out a tape measure and run it around the engine bay see how much room you have and then from there see how big the L series motor is, and then get to work, you will probably have to fit a clutch master cylinder but other than that most other parts will adapt, or find an A15 and put that in it would probably be easier to fit and then fit twin webers or SU's
