ok a small one today .

well the floor supports are done and now im moving on to arange the floor ,
ive ended up with a template that im happy with and seems to be sitting well and all fitting up,so thats pretty much done ,

next for the floor i had to finish of the end piece by making a filler panel .....

so out with the cardboard again to get a ruff pattern.............

then transfered over to wood to make the more solid template........

also checking that the tailgate clears ok,and it did.........

then i need to make up something to attach the filler panel too,and for this i used some aluminum strip and had it set on an angle to to act as a backing plate for the filler,so good and strong to attach to...

and thats that part done, will wait for the floor to come before i drill anything up ,but the framing is now all finsihed ready for the checker plate flooring to be attached...

next thing i will be looking at is the sides for the tray, now anyone who has done this sort of work will know that this is extremly time consuming and slow going ,as you have to measure and cut and measure again and adjust and cut some more and then test fitt and cut again on and on and on,so this part will definatley take a wile,

but sticking to the basics to get started here im using card board again ,to give me the ruff idea and sort out a shape that will fit and be usable.........

i have to make slots and remove sections of the card to allow for the parts that are in my way ie,struts and locking mechs,

also had to make sure that the tailgate didnt interfer with the end part of the sides ,had to make a slight change to my original ideas so that there was enuf room to fitt your hand in wile using the sliding bolts......

and so now i have the ruff idea and shapes that i needed so i cut them out of wood ,
then sand them up and test fit ,cut more adjust ,so on and so on,abit of wood working skills come in handy doing this sort of thing .....

so thats about it for today ,i have started to cut out the pieces from the wood and slowly sanding them up into a better fit,
so possibly in the weekend i may be able to start attaching a few pieces and get the thing to take shape.....

so finally got the cardboard shapes sorted, ended up with these.....

and cut the wood....

sanded up and started fitting in place, lots of trial and error and also i had to make my own custom brakets to attach to the inside the ute tray......

brakets made from aluminium and special threaded fittings so the tops could be screwed on and off...

and heres the holes haha...

yes you got it in one there mate this sort of restoration and custom work takes a lot of time and effort ,hours and hours just doing little things soon add up ,but im sure you can see the progress ,thanks for the remarks too,

also today i started to dumby up my sub set up ,so i can get an idea if its going to fit and work in how i want it too also so i can take other measurements need to complete this section ,so heres a few pics of the dumby,
very ruff but if you use your imagination im sure you will be able to picture the out come ..................

and just to see how close i was with the measurements i put it in the ute to check fit and shockingly it actualy fits very tight but its doable............
