Well I think we can get away comfertably with something a little tamer with that, the 4.11 gears do a good job at getting the rpm up very quickly, and might even look at putting the 4.33 gears back in that we were going to do a while a go.

Tyrie, that bloke Olly on the outs of Canberra with the 120y's, is he a mate of yours? Do you want to meet up and head out there one weekend?

Just moved into our new house and low and behold I have the best neighbour ever! hes way into engine transplants, hes just putting the finishing touches onto an old 70's holden with a spanking twin turbo supra motor. I think now have the right ppl around me to make this project a winner.

Well its been.... well ages since I posted here, moved house, got a new car, a couple o dogs running around the place... AND.... a 120Y just got dropped off out the front on Friday! woot!

I spent the weekend getting the 351 out of the falcon and onto a new stand, and pulled the datto engine out and put that on blocks for now.

A closer look at a bare bay presents some interesting challenges. Might have to move to a rack and pinion setup but still theres hope.

Nothing really to post pics for but heres a quick one to compare whats ahead.

More as things develop.

120Y why? Go with a 1200, it is 22% less weight and the same size engine bay. A 302 fits in fairly easy. The 351 is a bit wider so no comment.

[Edit:] See

YES, very few have fitted V8s to B110 or B210. But it seems the 302 windsor is the most common V8 swap. Usually they just do a motor plate at the front, and cut the tunnel out and replace with new sheet metal. Not so difficult. You will need to fit a new rear end (Ford 8.8 is recommended) and I reckon should fit a rollcage tied in to the front and rear suspension.wiki - V8 into 1200

The reason I went with the 120Y is acutally kinda funny, its been a while since the topic had been mentioned of even trying a conversion like this, and the tow driver across the road had overheard me months back talking about it. Unknown to me he had since been on the lookout, and only last week found a suitable straight auto 120Y (or similar small car) so he dropped it off for me, for next to nothing. So in short Im going to use the 120 cause it cost me nothing to aquire. But im kinda fond of the 120Y, the name rings alarm bells when you hear it for all sorts of reasons and its a nice lil car to boot.

Does anyone know of a rack and pinion setup from another car that suits a 120Y? might have to go down this road to get the clevo in.

It seems no one has ever done it. See Steering Gearbox Swaps. We used to use Ford Pinto to swap into just about anything. Now I hear Minis are popular donors.

Here's a 351 Ford-powered B210:

Swapping should be virtually identical as with a B110. See photos at wiki - V8

when i put the chev in my 1200,i put a gemini steering rack in front of the crossmember.
i made brackets that i welded to the crossmember, and swapped my complete strut, brake and lower steering arm assemblies from left to right.then the steering arms face the front, and lined up with the rack.i shortened the gemini rack ends and then re-threaded them to suit.the front radius arms needed to have a bend pressed into them to clear the tie rod ends when the suspension is on the bump stops.
i then modified the standard 1200 steering colum to suit.this was quite involved and in a nutshell i cut the outside of the colum right at the steering box and made a plate out of steel, using the original rubber locator as a guide.drilled a hole in the plate the same size as the outer diameter of the colum and welded it to the colum.then with that fitted to the car and the inner steering shaft coming out i made a short steering shaft with two small uni-joints to join the colum and rack together.
as a word of warning, this was just one of many major modifications that is needed to make a V8 conversion work in a datsun.others include, relocating the brake master behind the dash, exhaust, front suspension, transmission, diff, rear suspension, body strength and about 1000 other jobs.
and i was working with a small block chev and a powerglide.i did not cut my firewall or tunnel to make it fit,but a clevo and C4,is a much bigger engine and box.
