anyone on ideas for peak power and cam?

I am running 52kW at 5,500rpm at the back wheels which is the same redline as a standard cam (i am running a 25/65).

I am thinking of changing cam to one that goes to 9,000rpm because l heard that A series motors really get good Kws at high revs? Does this account for my sluggish 52kW @5,500? Also
l use this car regularily as a road car. Does putting in a wild cam make it undriveable for street? The cam will kick in at 3,000 right up to 9,000rpm. Will the car cruise at 60kmh?
Any ideas anyone?
Thx.

I run a datsun comp cam in my 1200,with duel solex carbs it revs to 8500 before dropping off. It however devlops no power under 4500 not street friendly. I have run smaller cams that
work well for the street. I will look up the specs for those cams list them. note my car is built auto crossing 13.5to1 compression, ported gx head with a14 valves, close ratio trans and
4.62 limted slip diff. I have owned this car 21 years and have made many changes to this car. Was my daily driver untill 1986.

Azza,
I agree with BOBS 1200 as I have run a car on the street with way too much cam and all I did was destroy a very expensive camshaft and waste a lot of fuel and basically wore out a
motor that was set up to race driving it on the street . The cam you are thinking of using will carbon up your head if not run at the RPMS it was designed for and it will require a lot
of extra valve spring tension to work correctly. A lot of fun to drive but not really a good choice for the street!

Look forward to cam info Bobs1200.

Can anyone suggest good cams to use for the street. Since being in Australia Melbourne, can anyone supply me with local contacts.

I am looking for a cam to rev to 7,000rpm. I have 1600 exhaust valves, ported, and double valve springs reseated to handle high rpms. The block is stock (except for cam),
and l running twin dellortoes. Any good suggestions for this setup?

If you can supply cam ideas, please put down the specs, and whether its a stock regrind, or complete new cam. & $$$
thanks.

Well azza,
It sounds like you've got the head set up to run
a fairly agressive cam without too much trouble.
A reground stock cam is the least expensive way to
gain power and torque but the stock billet limits what can be done . I had a stock unit reground for
my A 14 and didn't get as much as I had hoped but
my springs are limiting the upper end ,yours shouldn't do that . The problem with a stock billit is that it limits the lift, duration
and the lobe
centers and slopes are not really changable because of the original casting . Mine cost me $50
US dollars and I am planning on replacing it too. I would check out the internet search engines for
local shops around Melbourn as I bet there are quite a few in the area that sell a cam that will
give what you are looking for. Otherwise check out
Paeco and malvern racing (both on the net)in the US they have cams and lots of other hipo stuff for
the A engines .
Good luck Steve

I don't know where abouts in melbourne you are but Gordon Dobie of Datsun Performance Centre should be able to help you with Cam selections because he is the master when
it comes to Datsun Engines. He is in Fact1 No.3 Elma Rd Moorabbin
Ph: 9553 5309.

Thanks Chris.

I've had bad experiences with Gordon, he shafted me on rejetting my carbs. I paid $500 bucks (yeah ripped off) for Dellortoes and was told that it included jetting. He only did
the idles and let the power jets run rich as shit. That really pissed me off!!!

What are you running anyway?

Azza I haven't had any bad experiences with Gordon and he was the only one who would do a decent job when I had a fully worked 1600 in the early 90's, the 1600 which actually appeared on
his business card. Compared to other workshops like Datrally who absoluttely ripped off alot of young kids in the late 80's Gordon was alright and helped me out and a few friends. But
don't get me wrong he was the best of a bunch because generally all mechanics are rip offs. I am only running a single downdraught 32/36 on my 1500 but eventually I will put twin 40's when
I rebuild the motor. I think it's very hard to find a trustworthy mechanic. Have you got an email adress?

I looked for my old cam specs for street use but could not locate them. I believe the specs are the following 268 degrees .400 inch valve lift unsure of lobe centers rpm range very wide
2500 to 7000 with good valve springs. The other cam I used 280 degrees and .420 valve lift rpm range of 3200 to approx 7500rpm. The First cam is much more street friendly. note have
found when using high lift and high rpm you need helicoil the rocker shaft bolts in head to prevent puuling threads out.
