Most common things that I know of are when the lifters over extend when removed. Bleed them back down and have another go.

In a bench vice. Preferably with alloy inserts. Gentle pressure slow wind in.

would the loud ticking noises from the lifters explain that they have over extending and does that cause the car to stutter does it.

doing a compression test will confirm if its your lifters hanging the valves open (or turn over with a finger in the plug holes)
if you bleed them in a vice point the oil feed holes downwards
common oversight with hydraulic lifters/buckets
turbo engines have a lot of piston-valve clearance so i doubt if youve done any damage

noise comes from bled down lifters (loose)
poor running, hard to start is pumped up lifters (tight)

no
comp test
all the spark plugs, coil packs, injectors, fuel pumps in the world wont do sh#t if you dont have comp
once we know you have good compression then we can diagnose your prob

tight pumped up bucket will cause rough running not a loose one they just need to purge the air out of them (or be replaced, but give them a chance before condemning them it can take days for them to purge sometimes)
you must start from basics. check all vac hoses wiring etc
you have had the entire engine in bits so a lot has changed
good luck
pm me if you want more detailed help
