You should have kept a decent record though bud.

I always type receipts up and I always take details. Regardless of their excuses.

It sounds like you may be okay but there will be a poo fight and it sounds like it'll take a while.

Always cover your arse. Hope it works out for you.

EDIT: I landed in a big pile of poo a month or so ago with a few buildings that I designed, I put it through the engineers and got the nod. It then turned around on me and I was in the firing line (pre fab components had some flaws). I had written records in my diary as well as some emails of the very informal 'nod', and I managed to pass it all off.

Thank god for the records, imagine being burnt as an architect at only 23! Phew, my whole reputation was on the line! It's all good now, I was even asked to provide the solutions (structural) so it went well.

story doesnt add up.........

if you sold it unregistered does that mean the car is being driven without rego? then wouldnt they be trying to fine you for that also

and if you never registered it how the hell did the speeding tickets make it to you in the first place as you never officially owned the car

The Government knows EVERYHTING trust me. I was impressed with customs. All sorts of bizarre questions at the airport!

I reckon rallycar is onto something.

hmmmm seems he's pulled a swifty on ya, you got the plate number? go cancel the registration n get the money from that to pay the fines muhaha. i would just check to see if its in your name then if it is cancel the rego, then to get outta the fine get a court date and show them the receipt of when you sold it, that should have a date on it

i have it on good authority that there is a few things you can do. Has the fines gone to 'Enforcement order' yet? if so, you can take the fine that happened outside the state to court and it will get thrown out as long as you can prove that you were not in that particular state at the time of the fines. On The case as the other one you have to take that to court it could go either way, best thing to do is ring the state debt recovery office or whoever handles processing fines in your state and tell them your story and ask the for advice. They might be able to find the guy for you using their database, but then again they might not be able to. You can only try thats what they're there for.

sounds like reporting it stolen could be the best idea to me, obviously he has commited some sort of identity fraud also

[edit] i would go talk to a cop about the situation and seee what they think of the idea
