I may not have explained this properly. The coupe is 1971 so has old type cross member. The engine mounts have been modified to suit later model A 12. Do I need to drop the engine A15 to get it under the bonnet.As the wiki article says the A 15 is higher.

No you dont, it will fit fine. Just unbolt the mounts from your A12 and put them on the A15. Exhaust should be fine too.

If that doesnt work put a L16 in it.
