There are plenty of RWD engines that absoutley sh!t over the 12a..eg FE DOHC mazda engine from 1988 Capella 626, these engines are perfect for turbo charging just lowering the compression the only engine mod needed as the stock internals handle upwards of 350hp..
I dont know alot about that motor but I can imagine it would have many drawbacks over a 12A. A 12A will get close to 350hp without even needing to turbo it. 12A will be cheaper to modify and will fit in the car easier and be lighter.
Either stick nissan or go rotary there dont seem many other options to me. The thing that puts me off rotaries is there shocking fuel consumption but im sure you already realise that
Should be relatively easy to get a rotary 1200 to be faster than an S2000. A stock S2000 will pull low 14s but theyre that highly tuned already to get them to do much better than a high 13 is quite expensive. Theres plenty of 1200's doing lower times than that. compare 1200kg and 240hp against 700kgs and 300hp
