I'm positive. The earlier Nissan engines didn't have the good valve seats the A12 has.

The lead in gasoline primarly lubricates the valve seats, so you don't need to be concerned about other parts of the engine. A good oil (like 10W30) changed regularly will take care of the rest.

So you're good to go. Using LRP additives won't hurt the engine, just your pocketbook.

Well if you use LRP, then there is no need to use Lead Replacement additives. You'd only use the additives with ULP or PULP, and even then for like, older cars lesser than the mighty Datsun 1200.

Here's what the 1973 owner's manual says:
Quote:
Nissan Motors recommends the use of no-lead of low-lead (0 to 0.5 grams per gallon to minimize emissions.

So no-lead fuel is OK for Datsun 1200.

The thing is, even if you did need leaded fuel, the lead replacement stuff is pretty much worthless, and doesn't work worth a damn, There's a reason they kept lead in piston aircraft fuel long after it was phased out of all else - because nothing else works as well, period.

Most of the stuff on the market leaves crappy deposits in the ports and valves, with no protection.

Even on engines that 'need' lead - they take YEARS to have bad enough valve seat recession to cause poor running. So everyone puts in the lead substitute, drives the car for years and thinks it's the miracle product, it's placebo at best.

There are also conspiracy theories about Lead Replacement additives, that suggest that the additive is actually corrosive to get old cars off the road! This is no doubt due to the brown deposits left on everything when you use the additive.

In any case, as already stated, fortunately you don't need it for the a12. I ran my coupe on it for years with no ill effects. I also ran e10 fuel with no ill effects either (saves you about 14 cents a litre over PULP with 94RON octane).
