I'm using unleaded...
I was using leaded or lead replacement petrol but did not notice any difference.
How do you do the hand on carby thing?
do you just take the filter cover and where do you place your hand? I've never tried that before.
I'll replace the filter even though it looks really clean and new.
Should I just replace my carby with 32/36 webber? thats straight fit right?

To take the air cleaner assembly off, undo the top wing nut or nut off the top, take the lid off, take the air filter out, then take the rest of the air cleaner assembly off, it should slide off easily, but you may have to disconnect the hose from the rocker cover. then, with the car running, pull on the acellerator cable until the engine reaches about 2-3000 RPM, then release the cable and place your hand over the whole top of the carby, covering the intakes. repeat this a couple of times, and dont worry if the car stalls, just start it up again. To tell if you have to replace the air filter, drop it on some cement from shoulderish height, if little black chunks fall out of the filter when it hits the ground, it would probably be best to replace the filter. Also replace your fuel filter at the same time, if it hasnt been done for a while.

You write that you are using unleaded, but you do not mention what year model your car is or how long you have been using LFG [lead free gasoline] You also omit to mention if you are using a valve seat lubricant, like valvemaster.

If it is a model built before 1986, it may not be compatible with LFG. If you have been using this fuel for a fair period of time, your engine may be suffering from valve seat recession. The way to determine this is to check the tappet clearances of the exhaist valves. If there is none, then i recomend a FULL tune up including a tappet adjustment. Do this when hot for best results. Your workshop manual will give you all the details.

If power is still down, then a compression check is recomended. An economiser valve [power valve, same thing] failure often results in the thing defaulting to the "power" setting resulting in little mire than poor fuel economy.

I have read in a datsun UK club that its OK to use unleaded and a mechanic told me that I can just use unleaded.

What if I replace the stock carby with 32/36 webber? will it give more power?

I heard you can get the ones supplied for escorts, cortina, and gemini? are they the same ones?

it aint that easy, u need adaptor plate ($40)
modify the accelerator cable bracket (brains but not money)
rejet and prob rebuild the carb ($200)
modify heater hoses for choke ($10??for hose)
air filter ($40)

but definately worth it
