Thank all of you for your words of wisdom, you're all an inspiration to the human race! I'm a boilermaker by tade so i've got a mig welder, but what i need is a diagram or drawing showing what i need to do(after all i am a boilermaker and thats how i do things, with a drawing!) i can make the manifold in my sleep but what concerns me is where everything goes, turbo, carby etc.
PLEASE HELP ME!, I'M LOST!

there is several people, including myself that could tell you exactly how to setup what you want

but first....

which setup is it that you want

Super or Turbo

and

Blow through or Suck through

as you are a boiler maker i would suggest going blow through as it is better but requires more fabrication ect, which you would be suited to, and i would suggest turbo as they are better in my opion

I think you're right! i will go the turbo option(SORRY DODGEMAN!)do you think the blow through is better? i think i will go with that. i have seen a suck through set up on the fella that i bought my ute off, it didn't look pretty but it went well! all that consisted of was the carby was on the compessor side of the turbo(hence the term "suck through") am i right? any help from anyone would be welcome, i will be forever in your debt! THANKS AGAIN!!( i can't say that enough!!!)

well everyone has a good say and My opinion is to turbo and i prefer suck through or fuel injection injection. They're not difficult to do anymore but the way fuel injection injection with aftermarket computer is its awesome and extremely flexible. I mean look at the options. My favourite two makes are Wolf 3D Ver.4 and EMS Stinger or EMS 8840 (new).

I would either get a Fuel injection manifold and all necessary parts to run as a non-turbo,that way all the wiring, pumps return lines are sorted out then later fit a turbo manifold with forged pistons, properly balanced and pepared and retune the computer

Or I would start off getting a turbo manifold and turbo and set it up as a suck through using a t25 or t28 garrett and a 2" Su carby hanging off it then later fit a fuel injection manifold with computer.

It really depends on which way suits you.

Anyways I have an SR20DET in a Sunny coupe so I ain't worried for a while.

HEY! i just thought of somthing, would the standard gearbox and diff be able to handle the power a modifacation like this provides? what about a 5-speed box? are the 5-speed boxes stronger than the standard 4-speed? what about a ute diff? would it be able to handle the extra power?
in response to allans(dragongoose)post, I would love to go the fuel injection way ,but i heard that they are expensive and far to difficult unless you know what you're doing, is this true? have you still got that turbo for sale? would that turbo be a good size for a A series set up?

Well Stevo
You have done well. Your Question has started a debate that brought foward a great deal of opinion & fact on the subject. It has provided a lot of onfo to many people, including me.

We all have out pet bias & that became obvious during the debate. DO NOT be ashamed of any bias you all may have. Just go with it & do it well. Each system has its strengths & weaknesses & if you chose the system that suits your driving needs & your pocket, then you will love it.

For the record, if i had my druthers with an "A" series Datsun [in my coupe] It would be the 1434cc version of the 1200 block with a Wade vane type blower & sequential EFI. I would run about 8.5 to 1 compression & about 8 to 10 psi of boost max. That should provide enough torque to handle an overdrive trans & still have the kind of performance that keeps up with the traffic,......in the Thunderdome. Well, almost.
It would certainly suit my cruising style of motoring & the torque would let me get over some of those steeper hills without shifting down. I trial fitted my 6-71 GM blower on the bonnet. Naaah, it blocks the view.

Suck through turbo's go well too & seem to cost less.
Chris

Stevo, I have many of the same questions and I've learned a lot from this discussion. Does anyone have any comments in this type of turbo?

Hi Chris,
Thanks for your comments- next time I'm talking to my old mate in Wanganui, Mr Chisholm, I'll get those supercharger facts straight for you!We are though turning the hands of time back to around 1985-6 so the old memory gets a bit clouded, but you've got my curiousity up now!
Your observation re being too small is 100% correct, even left to idle for a few minutes if you put your hand on the plumbing to the inlet manifold it got VERY hot, one can only wonder what the car would have gone like with a modern, decent sized blower.
The more I think about it probably the easiest and enjoyable setups for Steveo would be a Toyota MR2 blower ( they're worth about $350) here in NZ, they have mounts on them very similar to an alternator so very easy to mount up, on an A14, drawing through an 1 3/4'' SU- by far the easiest carb to set up.Done correctly if it did'nt cut low 14's I'd eat my hat.
But then there's the lure of those bloody windmills.....

Chris,
Further to that last comment my curiosity got the better of me so I rang him- its definetly a cabin pressuriser off either a Vampire, but more than likely Canberra bomber-sound correct?
Cheers
Dave
