Twin SU's on a manifold can fetch between $175 and $650. It depends on how long between that set and the last set that were sold. The market does some really weird things.

I suppose you'd be looking for another oval port head. Yours was an oval port wasn't it?

Depending on how badly cracked the head is, I THINK some can be mended. But that depends on how nasty and where the crack is.

You can get something basic but it takes time and money, your quickest and most expensive upfront purchase is a setup off ebay, weber 32/36 on a manifold to suit. Or just the weber carb on it's own.

Heads can generally be welded and repaired at a reasonable price. Take it to a place where they do heads and they should tell you what condition it is in and how much to repair. As for a carby, as Chris said get a 32/36 have it rebuilt and jetted, adapters are reasonably priced. I have run a few of these and found them to be a good reliable carby.

It depends on what the engine specs are and how well you tune the carbs. Whatever choice you make there will be tuning issues, if you find something that suits perfect it tends to be very expensive as all the setting up has been done for you (and even then there might be minor issues with jetting etc).

I had 45s on my A12 and there was an A10 with 40mm Mikuni's on them, so it's doable but it's not an optimum carb selection.

Either way dude, getting fed up with tuning carbs is a common thing so don't 'jump out of the frying pan and into the flame' so to speak as you might find the same complications with other carbs, just keep trying.

If you need help tuning the SU's then you might as well start a post asking for advice/help.

I'm still stuffing around with my carbs after weeks and weeks, but I'm getting there.

It sounds like you're going to need to take it into a shop. There are so many different things that could cause backfiring of the carbs, and I don't know SU's very well. Sorry mate but we need details to be able to help.

I reckon gaskets would fail before the head'll crack. Why don't you take the head off and check the gasket? Do one thing at a time.
