Still no word from the engineer. Not that it should worry me seeing I'm doing it anyway but would still like to know....

Dismantled my R31 diff yesterday to confirm what I thought that the "LSD" diff I got wasn't actually an LSD. Surprise, surprise it wasn't.... Lesson to be learnt, not all R31 Silhouettes have an LSD!

So anyway, unperterbed I tracked down a (100% confirmed!) complete LSD with brakes, etc for $300! Picked it up after work tonight and it looks pretty good. The VS Commodore Ute it came out of had 150K on it so will probably need tightening up but we'll see when I pull it down. If a lot of it's life was long straight driving it could be ok. A lot of utes are fine especially if they come from the country
The new diff is a 3.08:1 ratio so I'll change it over for the Skyline gears which is a 3.91:1. Should get off the line nice and quick!
I'll probably convert both diffs to suit the Datto in case I need a spare or want one set up for highway driving one for track or strip.
I'm actually glad I got the Commo diff as the brakes are a lot simpler (straight push in piston rather than screw type) and the park brake is better (like a drum brake setup inside the disc).
I'm going to do as much of the conversion as I can and hopefully just get the axles resplined. That's the plan anyway.....
I'll post some piccies when I get a chance.
Bough one of these badboys today too. Can't hurt surely?

After my daily "stalking" of your awesome build page and seeing what you're capable of you'll be more than welcome to help!

Nearly bought another 1200 ute today.
A purty little red one! One owner from new. Wrapped in cotton wool from birth.
MY GOD was the tray straight! I don't reckon he'd ever put a thing in it. The sides were perfect and on the floor he had put thick plywood sheets. I lifted up a plywood sheet and nearly milked myself in the carpark, it was unmarked! Compared to my current bog machine it's a dream!
Needs a door (or major repair) and a bonnet but otherwise a little ripper.
May be a new member in the family tomorrow!!!
God my wife is gunna hate me! I actually pretended I'd already bought it....... I'm writing this from the doghouse.........

Mate, I'm 6 foot 8". I'd need to park two of them together to be able to lie in the back!

Here's a few pics of the new(ish) diff and my super shiny, super sexy turbo manifold. I love it. Believe it or not I bought it for $39!!!! I got it off a guy who works for Repco and he bought it (apparently) when it hit the old stock bin. It had the price tag on it still - $499! Bargain. It's amazing quality too.
Thankfully I did change the manifold as I've discovered a broken manifold/head stud. Slightly easier to fix now! The dump pipe gasket had been leaking too.
