looks great!, I'm using paint stripper at the moment and I've got to say it's not fun anymore..

do you need that special pressure blaster or will a normal pressurise grit blaster work? Ive got one of those normal blasters.. it should work?

is it noisy doing the blasting?

Cheers

Ed

i have done a few cars in side and out with paint stripper and yeah its not very fun... the machine i have is a soda blaster which uses a form of bi carb soda.. it can not use garnet ( replaced sand ) glass beads, etc... the major problem with these sorts of pressure blasters is the size of the compressor you need to run them. My machine can run on as little as 18 CFM ( cubic feet per min ) and depending on the nozzle size you use you will need more air and the smaller the nozzle the longer the time it will take .. its not the pressure the compressor can do thats a factor but the amount of air it can push non stop. The big blaster like Blastmaster, Burwell, Clemco need at least CFM 150 CFM + which in most cases will need a trailer compressor... You also need alot of free space it makes alot of mess and when i say alot. Chuck a couple hand fulls of flour into a fan and thats what its like when your blasting.. In terms of the noise, yeah it is.. at 90 PSI air is going to make noise when it comes in contact with the surface, I dont hear the compressor that inside the workshop..

I was in two minds about buying my blaster but as my uncle owns his own workshop and is always cleaning and using his small blasting cabinet i thought it would pay for its self in the long run, Its not a cheap way to do it by any means i have used 3 bags of bi carb to do the inside of the car at $60 a bag.. If you have a sandblaster and can use garnet etc is alot cheaper, But i would not use it on any panels like doors, roofs etc... just to easy to over heat the panel and stuff it.. Bi carb does not generate heat when blasting in fact it makes the surface cold if anything..

a standard abrasive blaster will work for sure... depending on your set up. Pot size, nozzle size, compressor size time is a unknown factor...

hope this helps...

feel free to ask more questions, I am more then happy to help..

thanks for answering that.

yeah it's prob too noisey for my place to use. I did do garnet blasting but that was on a property and noise was not an issue.

im getting thru it with the paint stripper and it's good how it doesnt generate dust or noise. the stripper leaves a residue which appears to resist surface rust better than I had anticipated. once I do the body I will de-oxidine anyway.

Cheers

Ed
