Is the speedo cable sheath frayed or not attached correctly to the end at the box. My a series boxes all suffered that leak.

Remove the cable and inspect the end that mates with the gearbox. If it looks deformed, that's the problem.

Otherwise it might be the O-ring. It's only about $1. Take the old o-ring into your local parts store for a match-up.

To get the sleeve assembly out of the transmission, wiggle it while you pull. If you can get vice-grips on the sleeve flange (not on the threads) then twist/rock it while it removing it.

To get the o-ring off the sleeve, use a small screwdriver or center punch -- or just cut if off with a razor or knife.

You don't need to disassemble it, just unbolt it and remove.

But first, inspect the cable end. If it's not perfectly round it will leak a little.

The o-ring rarely goes bad, so check the easy stuff first.

Maybe the gearbox is overfull. Have you checked the level?

ive taken off the cable and there is a rip in the rubber seal that sits right at the end of the rod. do u think this is the reason for the leak? and can i get a replacement part for it easily??
and i havnt cheaked the oil level...

Pictures mate- if it's the deal non the sheath, any same size o ring should do- go hardware shop tomorrow. I recon it could be the sheath and where it's crimped to metal that goes on the g box
