Hi guys been reading your comments,as alot off u said each to their own,but me personally i like the bigger wheels 15" min for me.I especially like the look off warzon and will be going for the same look, except im getting mine done so the tyres tuck under the gaurds.Im hoping to get 8-8.5" on the back (235 tyres)with the same dish as warzon as i have his hilux diff now.The diff is set up for 3 3/8 back space. When my ute is all finished i might even put 17s on it,fr17's.

Backspace is a wheel term, and doesn't apply to a diff. Are you talking about the distance from the leaf spring to the brake hub mounting face?

It's all relative DD. McDat is saying that the diff will be cut to a width that suits wheels with a 3 and 3/8" backspace (unless I have misread McDat's post).

The diff that i bought only measures 1080mm, alex (warzon) said that i will need a deep dished wheel with a 3 3/8 back space.Isnt back space measure from the back to the mounting surface.

I have 225/45/15 under the rear of my 1200 ute.

I have the same questions for you:
* Do the tyres ever rub on the spring or the fender lip?
* Did you do any mods (pulling or rolling the guards, or flares)?

Wheel fitment is all relative. However Backspace is not relative, it is an absolute measurement. It is from the wheel mounting face to the wheel inside edge.

Oh, I get it now. He probably meant that a wheel with that offset wouldn't foul. Presumably he's allowing a certain measurement for clearance between the edge of the wheel and and the leaf springs. I'm not sure how much you need, I would say at least 5mm from the tire edge to the leaf, but would expect that to occasionally rub when cornering. Any tires wider than the wheel width (that is, any un-streteched tires) will rub before the wheel does.

So even if the wheel doesn't foul, the tyre might.

The "Warz On" ute or the "Mad Dat" ute owned by Alex44? It looks great. Got Dish, and classic 80s Centerline Wheels looks.

The R31 diff has been cut to a similar width as the factory H165 diff. I can't remember the exact width of the top of my head.
Wheels are P25 offset. 15" by 7".
Initially there was some rubbing on the inner guard. This was solved with a 5mm slip on spacer on each side.
The guards have been rolled but not pumped.

I understand what backspace is but still maintain that you misunderstood what McDat was saying. The width of the diff he intends to use is entirely related to what backspace the wheels will need to not foul.

+25 offset plus a 5 spacer is +30. Which seems best to center tires within stock bodywork. Ute I think is 1305 mm drum-to-drum same as coupe.

Is this your mighty ute? The wheels & tyres fill out the guards perfectly.

My question was about his statement "The diff is set up for 3 3/8 back space". Yes, I wasn't sure what he was saying, but wanted him to clarify. I didn't make any untrue statment did I? I was interested in more specific details, and didn't mean to confuse anyone.
