i have been testing everything as ppl have been saying it, thats why i keep asking/coming back with comments, so LAMB i was thinking about doing that and in the end decided to give it a try and guess what it did start right away (all be it for a second as i turned it off as soon as it did so i could work out wtf is going on with my ignition switch)

I need to work out now as to why it isnt triggering the start wire but thnks for you help already ppl

Is there ment to be 5 wires plugged in to the back of the igtion switch its self as there are 5 pins but i have only got 4 wires on the back???

Ok, now you are getting somewhere. It sound like you might not be getting power to the coil when key is at the Start position.

The most common cause of this is incorrect wiring. There is only one wire to the Coil, but two wires to the ballast resistor. Do you see something different?

The Ignition Switch of a 1200 comes in four kinds. Late 1200s had this kind:

The Ignition Switch ACC terminal is not involved in starting the engine. If nothing is connected that is OK.

ok so after looking at the wiring diagrams for the 1200 ute i have found that i was missing the Start wire running to the coil, it would seem that with the old engine it didnt matter and it would start when i turned the key from the start spot back to the on spot, now with a new engine, higher comp and all that jaz it needs it on both the on and start spot

I have jumpped a wire from the start terminal on the back of the igntion switch to the coil and away it goes, now it starts no problems

I just need to sort out the idle and then it is off to the carby shop to get the dellortos all tuned and matched up

Thank you to everyone for your help in pointing me in the right direction for what was going on

I must say i have always loved the sound of a side draft carby.....

I will stick up some pics of the exhaust system i made up for it as well when i get a chance as well as the final engine bay when it is all finished as well

Just a few pics i have taken of how it looks so far, i still need to sort out the breather hoses as i couldnt sort any oil breather hose this wkend due to the bloody public holiday and also need to get filters when i get it to the carby shop for the tune and run in

Exhaust needs to be taken back off when i get time and have the welds cleaned up a bit and painted so it doesnt rust away before the car

Dropped the ute off this morning to get it all tuned and by lunch the tuner called me back to let me know that he couldnt finish it off, he got the carbys all sorted and running how they were ment to (jets blocked and even had a twisted throttle shaft) and started doing the tune he found that it ran out of at about 4000rpm but by that point it was already making just under 95bhp.

The mission now is to fit it up with an electric fuel pump and sort out some jets as well so that he can finish off the top end tune of the carbys, main thing is it is drivable so long as i stay below 4000. which is good as it means i can continue the run in process while sorting this all out

Question for anyone that reads this and have done an elec pump convertion, what pump did you put in as i have been told to use the Goss GE001 but looking at the info on it, it runs at about 15-27kpa and only flows about 40LPH. Would it be better to use the GE003 as it flows upwards of 80LPH but also at a higher pressure of 20-51kpa

I had that same ignition like in the pic U can push the key to
Far and then thay wear out. My old friend told me not turn so far
U can just turn the key slowly until the car turns over but it was to late it gave soon after
that so i ended up geting a new one from Phills roatys hear in Qld
and then at least i had a steering lock he sold the newer type for $180
I think it was back then in 2009 he still lists them on ebay.
Just though u might like to know
