Hey mate yea unfortunatly I do, one is definatly a right off and the other one is also bad and full of filler.
I know what you mean, seems over the last few days everytime I go out into the work shop I end up creating more work for myself.

Yeah don't get me wrong mate not trying to preach I need to hear what im saying to you to. What i did with my ute was to just fix the stuff thats obviously broken, Worn or Terminally rusty and now its 98% ready for rego. Maybe just work on some of the stuff youve removed get it ready for what needs doing to it and then move on to the next thing. I started at the front and worked my way back on the driveline anyway and resprayed the engine bay before i put it back together with all repainted and rebuilt front end. Then i fixed the rust in the floors and drivers sill and painted sealed them all up so could put all the interior back in. My car looks like me mums old patch work quilt on the outside but its solid and safe thats what matters To me. Paint will come after a roady.

Thanks for the advice mate, Im not going to make a complete resto like I planned, my main goal is to get it ready and registered in the next 8 weeks.
I am going to replace the bonnet front and rear fenders, I have been trying my hand at some panel beating as far as the roof & doors are concerned. and with the help of a little bit of filler they came out pritty good, the interior needs a fair bit of work still.
As far as the motor is concerned probably give it a service get the timming and carby's checked and I have to replace the carby gasket.
As far as the paint is concerned being as the pannels come in primer black I am going to use black primer on the rest of the car and leave it in black primer for now.
The reason why I am giving myself 8 weeks is because my main car has let me down and I am borrowing another car which I have to return in 8 weeks time.
So I will be useing the ute as a daily driver and pick up a sedan for my next project :)

Yeah you may still want to put something over the new panels anyway cause that black crap that's on them is pretty thin and doesnt like getting wet much but we can get that sorted when I come up. Cheers Andrew. P.S Do you have many clamps like G clamps and any sorts of metal clamps I can bring a few but the more the merrier. My number is in the For Sale Threads i have going if ya wanna ring me and discuss anything. Cheers Andrew

Thats fixable anything is, but if your cutting the rear quarters off just make sure you are cutting them off within the spot welds. So we can unpick whats left of them and dont have to patch up sections where to much is accidentally cut off. Just look at your new ones and stay well with in the lines of where they need to go back on.

Hey guys I could do with some help and ideas on a dilema I am having with my ute.
The story goes I swapped this ute for a perfectly good sports motorbike which was in mint condition and mechanically perfect. I would of valued my bike at around 5 grand easily.
My mistake was being impatient and I got it into my head that I really wanted to swap it for a old school car as I needed a car for transport and wanted a older car with caracter when this ute come up I snapped it up real quick and unfortunatly I put to much trust in the person that I brought it off that had owned it for the last 10 years that it was in the condition that he advertised in.

Me being a newb to cars really didant know where to look and what to look for, so I kind of ripped myself off, and now all I feel that all I have to show for my 5 grand is a rusty ute:(

The ute has had alot of rust repairs in the past looking at the chassis and I am worried that all of the time money and effort that I put into the ute is gonna go to waste as its just going to keep on rusting.
The problem is that I have no clue to what I am doing and if I do this work myself its going to take along time due to having to teach myself to weld ect.
The main reason why I brought this ute was I needed a car for transport and I was hopeing to get it on the road in a few weeks. Unfortunatly at the moment I do not have any spare money to buy another car with so it kind of screwed that up.
Carnt really afford to pay a proffesional to do the work for me.
I really like the ute I had alot of great plans for it, the only other situation which would work in my favour was to buy another ute and use this one for parts, as I feel eventually I would get my 5 grands work out of parts.
But bit of a #OOPS# as its going to be along time before I can afford to do that.
Trying to pull the old fender off has been a nightmare because all of the rails on the chassis where the fender tacks onto is also rusted so as I am pulling off the fenders the rails are falling apart because of the rust.
I also have to do the other side rear fender and am thinking its going to be the same as this one.
Im not sure what to do.
Heres a couple of pics some stuff I have found sofar.

The thing that i realise now days is, A: Yes you can cut ya losses and find another good ute shell but you would need to spend good money on one or get one that needs the bare minimum rust repairs for a bit cheaper, or B: spend the money you would spend, actually more than likely less on repairing the one you have and learn a lot along the way. We had one that looked like it had spent its life in a 4 foot puddle of muddy salt water and i replaced heaps of metal, bordering on whole ute. Then one came along cheap 1 hours drive away, not perfect 85% solid for 1500 with rego and a bonnet worth $900 on it so i grabbed it and sold the bonnet but that was a one off, especially now days. The thing that I found was off-putting was the amount of hours i spent and seemed to be getting nowhere but you may waste many hours/days trying to find another good one which could be better spent on the one you have. It's a hard call and ultimately its your call. The time i offered to help you with it was voluntary, and we were happy with fuel and food as payment.
