Ive been trying for two weeks now but I cant get on via AOL, anyway, I have just purchased a 1972 1200 Deluxe and the 1st thing that happened was it got stuck in 4th gear, I changed out the tranny w/ a 5 speed from a 81 wagon. I had to change and make a new crossmember for the tranny and after all that I put it on the ground to find out that 1st & 2nd dont work, AAAAAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. So now I need to figure out what tranny I can use and what motor is in mine. The guy I got it from said that he replaced the motor a few years ago w/ a bigger one but I dont know how to tell which one it is, any help would be great thanks. Feel free to e mail me @ .......... fj40350turbo@aol.com.........THANKS again.

Congrats on getting back online, but sorry to hear about the gearbox troubles.

Have you adjusted the clutch linkage at the gearbox to factory specs? This could make it difficult to get in or out of some gears ...

Anyways, there is an ID mark on the engine, just rearward of the distributor. Look for a flat machined area on the block, it has a mark, A12, A14, etc. That's the engine number.

A13 came from the 1974 B210. It's just a little bigger than the original Datsun 1200 (B110) engine.

You can use any transmission from any a-series engine (A12, A13, A14, A15, A12A). My favorite is the one you got, the five-speed from the Datsun "210" (B310). But the original 4-speed is the lightest of them all, so that's good for acceleration.
