Hey guys,

Just pulled out my 5 speed gearbox out of my 1200 as it needs to be reco'd. I noticed the number 60 then another number 2# on the same side, on the opposite side it has the number 4#. Is this to indicate it is a genuine dogleg gearbox ? Also what heavy duty clutch brands do you recommend to suit a14 + this gearbox ?

If it is a genuine dogleg gearbox the shift pattern should be Reverse in 1st gear position.

Is this what you got?Then it will be,Counterforce or nismo Clutch would be suitable.

thank you, that is exactly what ive got.. i would like to install a good clutch as i have plans for this vehicle. Is it worth machining the fly wheel or upgrading it ?

Not sure but if you want you could bolt on an a12 fly wheel,it's a bit lighter.What ever suits you best.

it's worth machining the flywheel - not only for a better surface to grip on, but also to get rid of any tiny surface cracks (which happen over time, surface heat from friction (if you slip the clutch a lot) and so forth.

I've heard the vanettes had a heavier spring in the pressure plate (so more clamping force) but can't verify it, and most aftermarket clutches list the same clutch kit for vanette or regular datsun (at least the ones I've looked into) but if there is a different listing, I'd go the one for the vanette.

The a12 flywheel is lighter so it will have a little bit more throttle response than the larger a15 type flywheel (though the difference isn't astronomical). This matters more on a non turbo performance motor esp with lower geared rearends (like 4.3 or 4.88). On a stocker, the heavier flywheel makes it a little bit more 'stable' and smooth esp in stop start gridlock traffic.

Thanks Jmac, i was more then likely going to machine the flywheel whislt the gearbox was getting reco'd but wasn't sure if it was worth machining or just buying a new one. I'll have to suss out clutch mobs and pricing. I've been told heavy duty is abit over kill so i'll have to do some more research..
