Hey guys
just got to the point of cleaning the rim of the tray up after removing all the lip. The "hook holes" are remaining and I'm in a heated dispute about weather to fiberglass fill them or weld a small piece of metal in then will the remainder with glass filler?
Would love to hear all your opinions!!!!

The problem with bogging/glassing any holes especially with nothing behind them, is eventually (pretty soon) the paint will crack around them and even at times will just fall out. So all ya time and dollars wont be a total waste but a bit of a let down.

I'm talking about those little divots that are every 30cm or so along the tray. Not a physical hole just that small 3x2 cm divot. I figured cutting out Lil blocks of plate and welding them in and then using a very minimal amount of body filler to make them flush. But another mate of mine thinks you can just use fibre glass bog and fill them and they will be fine.....

I attached a quick pic. This isn't my truck haha.
If you see where the hooks are, directly underneath them there are little indentations in the outer quarter panel. That's what I need to fill up :)

So you mean the moulded section below the hooks, on the horizontal not the vertical yeah ?. sorry i was thinking you meant where you had drilled out the welds for the hooks. My ute has the hooks removed but still has those indentations i personally am going to leave them as they dont upset my feng- shui, He He. That said if you were to fill them they should be o.k but i would recommend running a flapper disc say 80 grit around the edge first to take a little off so when you block the filler it all ends up level again other wise you will have a hard time hiding the filler.

My thoughts exactly. So you think they will be fine with just fibre glass filler?

You cant feather out fibre glass you need a skim of body filler over the top to be able to feather it out so would just go with body filler. Also if you welded something in there you would need to get to the inside to paint something on the burnt/penetrated areas to stop it rusting from the inside out. At the end of the day man the less bog the better and eventually it will give way especially if it gets used as a work ute or has something with decent power in it where the body will flex over time.
