Ive been busy but I see ivan took control of the pist and gripped the shaft with both hand and gave it a wriggle.
I cant believe nige didnt beat me to it but I guess hes busy beating hard wood

Yes. They will build a new unit. It cannot actually be shortened because the tube is tapered.

Thats not true dd. A professional can shorten them as I had done on mine for the 1200. It was tapered too. Thanks for deleting the post too. I love ford forum where almost anything goes

Thanks for your help guys. Don't know why it won't fit cos like I said I've used this setup before but I guess know I've just got to fix it . unfortunately my usual method of "buy a bigger hammer" won't work !!

I shorten mine in my shop and they're fine! I do install a hoop though.

Some people find it easier to mod the engine mounts than to cut shut and balance the tail shaft.

If you have a fitter and turner friend, a slab is a good swap for a cut and shut.
