Hey guys I got a 1975 Datsun 1200 ute and I want to know what engines did they come out off the factory line with and what can I put in them without certification in New South Wales

Ok coz apparently they came out with a15 in New Zealand and a14 here but I wasn't to sure about it

They only came out with a12's here but u can fit an a14 depending where u live...

never came standard in nz with an a15, just a12. Later ones came out with an a14 in south africa

So because they came out with a14 in South Africa I can put a a14 in this without engineering it??

Doubt you'd be able to do that, unless it is an actual South African import.

Some states the A14 is an acceptable upgrade without engineering approval. Perhaps check if this is the case in NSW?

Other wise your options are;

Run standard A12

Run slightly or heavily worked A12

Bore and stroke the A12 to make it larger capacity.

Grind off the A14 engine markings and change to A12.

Get engineers approval for a mach larger engine for the same cost of the engineers services, CA18, 4AGE, SR20 etc etc

Thanx the ute i has the Japanese plate but is approved under Australian laws so what did Japan's ones Come out with?

yeah mate in NSW u can increase the capacity or power by %20 and not to get it engineered as long as it is the same family engine eg A12 & A14 if fine, u can get onto the RMS site and it will give u all the info u need for what u can and cant get away with... if u can see one of my previous posts i put up it had the link to what u will need... and it would have only come out with an A12 mate
