Apparently I may need to get a different manifold? I really odnt know much about mechanics but was hoping to put it in myself, as I've just bought a manual 4 my 120y. I took it into a mechanics place in chch and they quoted $500 just to put it on cuz they recon you need to get a bigger fuel pump and do dyno testing....ouch aye!
Hey Regulator,
I'm from Auckland as you can tell by my details.. anyway i wouldn't go with that quote/information that your mechanic in CHCH gave you...
First things, you must make sure you have the CORRECT webber carb, check the
numbers/code on the bottom of it as explained in earlier message. What i'm afarid you may have done is sourced a 2L Cortina webber carb, as we all know these are still pretty common in NZ and easy to get hold of the carbs. This may prove too big in jet size etc and you will be first placed with the problem of rejetting etc..
What you want to do is get a webber of like a Mk1 or Mk2 1300/1600/1500 cortina or escort, stay away form the 2L stuff.
Once you have sussed out that you have the correct webber carb, contact Webber Specialties in Glenfield Auckland, (sorry not sure of the number) He makes adapator plates etc for the conversion - you DO NOT need larger manifolds etc..
Perhaps you can buy a 'kit' off those guys or something or ask for advice or template on making your own and what to do etc..
All going well you will come in way under $500 for such a conversion.
Just my thoughts...
Cheers
