Hi just wondering if the 180sx ca18 CAS was a good.option for use with an efi conversion using the stock manifold? I got.one.for free. I was previously considering trigger wheel and edis style?

Is it easy to convert to fit.in an a15?

Is it easy to convert to fit in an a15? No, not easy to use the CA18 CAS unit.

The good news is that CAS is not needed for EFI. The Datsun ECUs didn't use CAS, and even modern Haltech, Wolf, MegaSquirt etc. don't require CAS. CAS is needed for Coil-On-Plug, and to reduce emissions by running Sequential EFI. For regular EFI you only need a tach signal

But you can use an E15ET CAS unit in a A15, if you replace the distributor with crank-trigger ignition and multiple coils. You don't have to use EDIS, you can use a GM/Volvo/Toyota/Etc.-style crank trigger wheel. But the Aussie-style EDIS wheel is super-easy fit to the A15

To use the CA18 CAS unit in an A-series engine you could:

* Remove the guts and somehow mount in an A-series distributor. But then you won't have a distributor.

* Use the CA18 CAS unmodified, and drive it off the A-engine cam somehow. Maybe using a A-series cam-drive cover, not sure if there is enough room for it in this location

Yes, trouble getting it because it's so old and was a rare option. But if you are working on 35 year old engines and even more antiquey cars, get used to it!

I first learned about E15ET from guys in Australia, it came in the N12 pulsar. Here in USA came in "Pulsar NX" (very rare) but the same CAS unit came in the more common fuel-injected E16 engines in B11, B12 (Sunny) and N12. So more than just the turbo engine. You might find one in wreckers that specialize in older Japanese cars

A couple of guys said the FJ distributor/CAS unit fits the A-series with mods. Others have reported that SR20 CAS unit fits with mods. However they didn't share what mods are needed. Both units (FJ and SR) looks similar to an A-series distributor ... while the E-series mods are known and documented at D4P

The SR20DE CAS needs to be turned down on the drive shaft snout to match the A series diameter snout, shorten the length, and counter-bored to accommodate the SR20DE thrust bearing. The drive gear from the A-series needs to be modded to fit the SR CAS shaft. Oh yeah and don't forget to shorten the length of the SR20DE CAS shaft.

I never finished mine, because of the spacing of the supercharger on that side of my engine. It was too close to allow for the CAS.
