Hello guys,

As some of you are aware I'm currently doing a engine swap and a hole other mods to my Datto.

Lately I have encounter some issues with parts that I have order. Need some advice from the expert.

Before anything let me clarify my intentions and parts to be use. The car is for streett use with drag racing intent. Will be using 15x4 front wheels with 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern.

What I'm after is lower the car at least probably 3 inches and do a custom brake set up!

So here we go with h the issues that I need d help.

I order a set of MadDat lower control arm and Techno Toy Tunning coil over kit, thinks ny will be a straight tit. To my surprise they are made for the 50mm and unes and the bigger balljoint. Because of this. I went and bought a set of 310 struts, so far so good until I try to fit a set of struts cartrige originally bought for the 1200 struts.

I have read the Wiki and probably not understand all that much info 😬. My question is which insert will fit the 310 struts and are smaller so I can do the coilover set up?

Here is my second issue, want to install a set of Wildwood set up to them by having some issues getting the Timken parts number for both ballbearing front inner and outer. Reason is... I need to find a way to match the ID of the 310 with the OD of the Wilwood hub. Which are made for the Mustang 2 set up know as Pinto also

Thanks in advance

Jose

"310 struts" -- what struts exactly do you have? Datsun 310 is a front-wheel-drive car. Datsun B310 is a rear-wheel-drive car

If you are using Datsun B310 struts, they came in two different sizes, (small) 45mm struts or (large) 2" struts being the diameter of the strut tubes. Which do you have?

Most any insert will fit, including the Datsun 1200 inserts. Struts for B110 and B310 are the same overall length

Smaller inserts are not needed when fitting coilovers. Smaller diameter inserts are only needed when using 45mm struts. Shorter inserts are only needed if you shorten the strut tube

Small-diameter coilover springs will fit stock B310 or B110 struts, whether 45mm type or the larger 2" type. If you are fitting coilover adusting sleeves which are made for 2" tubes, they can be put on 45mm tubes with a simple spacer

If you are fitting them to a Datsun B110, you will need:

* File the strut mounting holes (in the strut towers) out very slightly as the T3 tops use M12 studs and the 1200 uses M8 studs
* Use the B310 knuckle arms as B110 knuckle arms won't bolt to the large struts
* Use the B310 LCA and balljoint so it will fit the struts (B310 LCA is exactly the same as a 1200 LCA except for the balljoint and Tension Rod). See SAP for more details
* Be sure to get a wheel alignment after the parts are swapped

What kind of spacer, yes I'll be cutting the struts tube to lower it

Will be using the 310 struts nothing from the 1200, believe it or not the T3 camber plate fit perfectly without making any bigger the holes

That's great. Perhaps someone already filed the holes slightly sometime in the last 40 years (they almost fit without doing it)

Cutting the strut tubes won't lower the car. Mounting the spring cup/seat lower on the strut tube will lower the car. That can be done with or without shortening the tube

If you cut the strut tubes shorter you'll need a shorter insert. See 2-inch Strut Inserts for Lowering

Doesn't lowering the cup limit the bounce and renounce of the spring?

Maybe, but how are you going to lower the car? The usual methods are

* Fit shorter springs
or
* Lower the spring perch/cup/seat
or
* Fit smaller diameter tires

Most "coilover kits" includes adjustable lower spring seats. You turn the seat to raise or lower it. And yes, that affects the jounce & capture of the spring. Lower the seat too much and the spring can come off the seat when going over a dip (suspension droop). Same thing can occur with too short of a spring

But done carefully there is no problem. Don't try to lower it too far. Test it for safety before you drive it -- jack the car up by the body and let the wheel droop down, use a prybar to force the LCA & wheel down as far as it will go, and ensure the spring is still captive (not loose on the seat)
