I have the Redline adapter plate for the 32/36 Weber and H89 manifold. The plate is offset so it can be mounted two ways. Shoul the carb be offset towards or away from the engine?

Does it look like this Redline Weber plate?

Yes it is very similar but the hole is an oval, not tapered as in the photo.

It looks like the further from the engine position is a bit more logical as it centres the hole in the adapter over the hole in the bottom of the carb. Yes, I happen to have two plates.

Looks like an adapter that can fit either a Datsun/Honda manifold or another (Mazda?) manifold depending on which set of holes you use
Also looks like the carburetor could be bolted on two ways: with the primary closest to the cylinder head, or rotated so that the secondary is on the cylinder head side ... the normal position is with the smaller bore on the cylinder head side, but if your adapter and the manifold are cut out, it can go either way
