Having trouble getting the right information on B10 4 speed flywheel and clutch:
Does the flywheel have step in the face for the 160mm clutch disc?
If so how much in thousandths?
What is the factory clutch disc thickness?

Owner what to keep this 43,000 mile coupe as stock as possible. Not willing to do the A12 flywheel, clutch and transmission swap.
Problem started with worn/slipping original clutch disc, had it rebuilt to A12 specs,as that was that we could find. Still slipped, resurfaced flywheel, machine shop did it without a step. Reassembled- slipped. Had .015" step machined in flywheel, still slips!

Found A10 pressure clamping force in Wiki Tech - 320kg, machine shop says that part is good. We are in the Portland Oregon USA area and have run out of ideas on the solution to this problem.

Specifications/Information would be greatly appreciated car as coming up for sale.

They are all stepless except for the FWD engines

* Datsun B10 uses 160mm clutch disc
* all other A engines uses 180mm disc

B110 disc service spec thickness is 6.7 to 8.0 mm


If the clutch slips, resurface the flywheel + new disc + new cover. If the used disc is still thick enough, and the cover still measure out enough pounds, then there is oil/glazing damage done to the disc or to the flywheel -- which is why resurfacing the flyweel and using a new pressure plate cover is a fix-all, even if sometimes you can get by without resurfacing the flywheel


Btw, clutch cover of 320kg is for low-torque engines and results in very very light clutch pedal. Most only sell the A15-compatible 800kg cover these days. Which will work on A12 and other smaller engines - no slipping but requires more leg pressure

Another possibility is since flywheel O.D. is same as the 1200 flywheel, it will fit too. Just would need to make sure a 1200 cover will fit in the transmission case (there are different A12 cover designs some bulkier than others). The A12 flywheel is 3mm thicker so check the clutch action before reinstalling in car (might need to machine the release bearing sleeve down a bit). Or maybe have the A12 flywheel shaved down 2mm? Dunno

The Datsun 1000 factory manual will have the disc thickness specs and how to measure clutch cover -- maybe Chick has one?

AS for the step in the flywheels A12,13,14 and 15's that I have removed every engine,even the rusty nasty looking ones, reconditioned, resurfaced ones bought in a pile of A series parts, ALL had steps ground into them. Approx step .015", had one dozen ground all at once both A12 and the other A series flywheels. Have run them with no problems. Even the light weight flywheel from Bprojects had a step.

Seems odd that an A10 flywheel wouldn't have a step, but will have step ground out.

I guess it depends on what you mean by step. Here are some photos, you can see that disc surface is a touch higher than the rest of the flywheel

The Datsun Competition diagram shows it 0.13mm (5 thousands inch). To recreate this, surface the flywheel flat, then remove 0.13mm from the outer area where the cover bolts on
