I recently replaced the inner door glass belt seals and noticed that the outer ones were looking a bit sad.

Pulled off the chrome trim along the door glass ledge and had a look at the belt seal. It’s attached by 5 heavy duty staples. I’ve managed to remove a couple of them and will continue on...but I’m really not sure how to go about stapling the new seals on.

Can anybody shed some light on how they’ve done it?

Aren't they also stuck on or moulded on so to speak.

Could use a thin bead of sikaflex and some similar staples.

Sit it with the backs of staples on a length of pine and tap the staple ends inwards then wipe excess sikaflex off with prepsol or brake clean.

Yes was considering something like that. Or maybe some small rivets.

I couldn’t really bend the original staples with a screwdriver when I tried to remove them, so I assume they were strong enough to pierce through the steel trim piece. Curious to know if these are a special staple and what sort of stapler would be used to shoot them in. I do own an electric staple gun, but I doubt the staples I have would shoot through steel...although maybe it could.

Found the ‘Senco Medium Crown Clinch Staplers’ and they look like they would be the correct tool for the job. But, way to pricey for a one time job. I wonder if some of the auto upholsterers would have such a tool.

I’m going to see if I can buy the trim piece with the rubber already attached. Failing that I’ll have a go at attaching some new rubbers to my old trim pieces.

Thanks for your input DD. There are several places in Australia that sell just the rubber strip including Datsport and Scott’s Old Auto Rubber.

To use these you need to remove the staples and old rubber strips from the chrome trim and re-attach the new rubber strips to the chrome. I was just trying to find out how others had done this, as most people don’t have the stapling equipment to go through steel to replicate the factory attachment method..

My preference would be to order the part from Nissan which comes with the rubber weatherstrip already attached. So far I’ve been told they are Discontinued. I know Bprojects sell them, but their prices are to high for me to justify. I’ll do a little further searching and if I can’t find the complete parts I’ll order in the rubber strips.

Well I've located some NOS chrome trims with weatherstrip attached. So won't have to stick new rubbers to my old trim after all.

If I was to do it, my plan was to use either Permatex Super Weatherstrip Adhesive or Sikaflex-Auto+ Adhesive and also see if I could push some heavy duty staples through the existing holes left by the original staples.
