The A10 Engine was the beginning of the A-series dynasty, so the beginning of the high-performance small Datsun engine. In the 1966 Datsun 1000 it was a revelation, a smooth high-revving powerplant.

At first glance it looks the same as the early A12 block, but it has 3 main differences:

* 3-bearing crankshaft rated at 6,000 rpm. The A12 has a stouter 5-bearing crank and can rev much higher (the GX was rated at 6400 rpm). But with the A10's very short 59mm stroke it doesn't vibrate much

* Deck height: 10mm shorter than A12. It has the shortest deck (the A12 is a full 10mm taller), so therefore the lightest weight

* No provision for positive crankcase ventilation

This A10 cylinder block sold last week on Yahoo for $120 USD. Seems like a superb bargain for an overbore to 76.85mm, resulting in 1.1 liter (1094cc which is 106 more than stock). However, it looks like there may be crack in the deck by the no. 1 cylinder, but it might be just a scratch
